From the Bitteroot mountains of Mullan to the Coeur d’ Alene River Valley to the Palouse, the Trail crosses every major lowland habitat in North Idaho. These habitats are home to 189 bird species, including 48 very rare species, as well as moose, elk, white tail deer, coyotes, beavers, and river otters. Much of the prime bird and animal viewing can be found just 2-3 miles North of the Cycle Haus in the wetlands surrounding the Chain Lakes.
